I just wanted to extend an official thank you to you and the band for travelling ALL the way to Biloela in Central Queensland to run a Song Writing Workshop and play at our Community Bush Dance.
As a P&C, we wanted to bring our kids an out-of-this-town experience in the arts. You certainly provided! The musical exposure and enjoyment the students received on the day was so worth it and you all displayed such professionalism and patience when working with them.
They absolutely loved the studio recording of the song and still sing ‘B-I-L-O-E-L-A this is our home constantly! My kids love pointing out to people which verse of the song they wrote, with one of my son?s especially loving that the shooting star line was ‘his idea’.
They all have a very real connection to what you created together that day during the song-writing workshop. This kind of experience wasn’t something they would have had access to normally as rural kids so it really was an absolute privilege and a pleasure to work with you.
In terms of the bush dance, their little smiles are etched in my memory. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and wouldn’t stop dancing! We loved that you were so patient with our young clientele and really simplified the dances so that all could participate.
We have received so much feedback about the evening and how much fun everyone had. Our kids and community will certainly remember that night out of the tennis court for a very long time which was exactly the result we had in mind.
Right from the get go you were so supportive of making this happen for Prossie and I cannot thank you enough. Hope to have you back in Biloela one day again.

The most overwhelming feedback that I keep getting is “When is the next one?” My kids have also said that it’s non-negotiable-we’re doing it again next year! So we’ll definitely be in touch again! My favourite feedback was from my sister about her young boys: “Boys loved it SOOOOO much, they keep talking about how epic the hoedown was. Jacob even said he hasn’t told his friends about it because he has not words to describe how awesome it was”
I personally loved how we had people there from ages 2 to 90, from different parts of our community that didn’t know each other, and how your band connected everyone together. It just filled my heart seeing all ages dancing their hearts out and smiling and laughing all night long! The feedback has been phenomenal!
People saying that it was such a fun night, the band was really good, and when is the next one? Those that couldn’t make it were keen to find out how it went, and have said there’s no way they’re missing the next one! The other thing I love is how you’re able to read the crowd and where they’re up to. You would do the called dances and then break it up with some banging rock classics-simply fantastic!

From the minute I contacted Michael, I was excited about hearing your music, but the sense of connection and warmth you also brought to the occasion was way beyond our expectations.
It was incredible to watch how you were able to get a crowd spanning the ages of 5 to 90 years old onto the dance floor, including some who had NEVER danced, and others who hadn’t danced for years.

A special friend told me it was the first time she’d ever danced with her brother, and the first time they’d held hands since they were kids. I think that sums up the vibe perfectly.

BLEW ALL OUR EXPECTATIONS AWAY!!!
Michael and the Swamp Dawkins group blew all expectations out of the water when they played at our Namoi Cotton Excellence Awards night in Narrabri.
When booking them I had read the reviews and seen some footage of previous gigs, and thought that they looked like a lot fun – and fun was what we needed. But their set and teaching us to bush dance was way better in real life.
People were dancing that we didn’t know could dance and others were foot tapping and immersed in the music. The only complaint we had on the night was that the band didn’t play for long enough – and we have noted that for next time.

We have had lots of comments about the great music. It was as good balance between more popular music and called bush dances. Michael was delightful to deal with– couldn’t have been more accomodating and well organised.

EVERYONE DANCING WITHIN MINUTES!!!
Swamp Dawkins had all the guests at our daughter’s 21st up and dancing within minutes. The Australian Bush Dance music was the best we’d ever heard. People of all ages got involved – kids to grandmas – and so many people commented that they had the best time they’d ever had at a party.
You don’t need to know how to dance as Swamp Dawkins teach you as you go… so much fun and laughter! The sets of Australian songs in between were also fabulous.
Swamp Dawkins were really great to deal with in terms of logistics, set up and everything on the day. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

We recently hired Swamp Dawkins for a Bush Dance event with 200 guests of various ages visiting Sydney for a conference. The band played Aussie classics then played/called a few sets of barn dancing.
From our first interaction with Michael and the band, they were easy to work with, professional and accomodating.
But, the music and fun they added to our event was beyond our expectations!

AN INJECTION OF LAUGHTER & HAPPINESS!
In June 2019, the local residents of Barcaldine in ‘Outback’ Western Queensland championed the help of Sydney’s Best Bush Band ‘Swamp Dawkins’ to host a Community Bush Dance. It was time to have a bit of fun so Michael, Max, Andrew and the?beautiful Cara, took up the challenge and packed their bags leaving the city lights of Sydney behind to visit the ‘Wild West’ in the dead centre of Queensland- Barcy.
From the moment they hit the dirt they sniffed it- tasting Barcy’s famous meat pies for lunch followed by ‘Happy Hour’ at The Union Hotel. this Outback experience was about bringing a fresh positive energy to a place burdened by many years of drought.
With the theme of ‘Giving Back’ to the Community, Michael and the Swamp Dawkins band members generously gave several hours of their afternoon to local school children in a workshop about writing music. It was here that we witnessed Michael’s true talent and passion for music surface as together the group wrote lyrics to an original song ‘When the River Runs Dry, the River Runs Deep’, all about their home town of Barcaldine. The group proudly performed the song later in the evening in front of the 200 strong crowd of emotional locals. The song has been generously recorded and gifted to our community as an everlasting reminder of our resilience and strength in tough times.
From the Brown Jug Polka to Stripping the Willow, Michael confidently called and taught each dance with humour and precision with the entire crowd up on their feet. The afterglow and success of this event is attributed to the enthusiasm, professionalism and generosity of Michael and the Swamp Dawkins Crew- Andrew (Terry), Cara and Max. This was more than just a night to remember. This was an injection of laughter, happiness and connection which transported each and everyone in our community to a place of pure joy. We are truly grateful. Thanks you Swamp Dawkins!

Dear Michael and the wonderful musicians of Swamp Dawkins,
I would like to thank you for your performance and your musical and people-managing talents at our Parish Bush Dance. I have received rave responses from those who attended and they are all pressing me to do it again (with the same band!) next year.
The idea behind the dance was to facilitate a socially engaging evening particularly for the younger members of the parish, but also for all ages. This was extremely successful- they had such a good time, and I noticed that some people who told me that they couldn’t dance ended up dancing. This was made easier by the way in which you and the band called the dances and basically taught the moves of each dance, allowing for it to commence slowly to allow us to perform it clunkily, until we got a bit more co-ordinated.
It ended up being an evening that was enjoyed by the older ones, the youth, and the children- bringing all the generations together- a really fun night. It also resulted in some friendships developing between people who have never spoken before!

We needed a fun event for our weekend retreat that would work with our varied age range? (19-40yrs) and cultural backgrounds- and Swamp Dawkins NAILED IT!
Their dances had all of us mixing and switching partners, which was great to bond the group together. Everyone had so much fun – there was non-stop laughter as we danced the night away. People have not stopped talking about it since!
Booking the band with Michael was so easy – it was obvious that he wanted us to have a great night, and he was willing to be flexible to the needs of our group and the venue we hired. The whole band was so friendly and had such a great style about them – it made our weekend retreat extra special.

We?first met Swamp Dawkins when we hired them for my 21st birthday in 2014. Every single person, from my little cousins to my oldest relatives had a blast! The feedback I got from my ‘city folk’ friends, was that they could not believe how much fun they had – and they didn’t need to be blind drunk to dance and have fun, like other parties they went to.
Even the people that ‘definitely do not dance under any circumstances’, danced!!
It wasn’t even a question when my now husband proposed to me that we would have Swamp Dawkins playing for the reception of our wedding. Our wedding has just passed and we could not be happier!?
Swamp Dawkins are very professional, flexible, so easy to deal with and all round good people.
Michael is an incredible caller and the band are fantastic – playing both bush dances tunes, as well as fun covers that get the whole crowd dancing. Swamp Dawkins easily managed our huge wedding of around 250 people – the only limitation was that we underestimated how many people would want to dance and we needed more dance floor!
We cannot recommend Swamp Dawkins highly enough for any function – birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, parties, etc, and I cannot wait to have them back at any opportunity we can!

We just wanted to say a huge thank-you for helping us celebrate our wedding!
Prior to the wedding we found you were very eager to answer all our questions and make the planning go as smoothly as possible- which it did! On the day the guests were raving about your professional and relaxed manner- they loved arriving to soft acoustic music. Two friends commented that “It was great, sitting on the grass with a beer in hand watching them go!”.
Although I wasn’t involved with lots of the minor details on the night from my perspective it seemed as if people were working well, sharing the stage/ equipment etc. People loved the way the music changed as night fell as things started to pick up. A huge favourite of mine was the called dancing- everyone was laughing and having such a great time. If my husband wasn’t so eager to leave I would have loved to keep dancing! The only complaint we had from guests was that the party ended too early…but the said even 4am in the morning would be too soon!
Our first dance was lovely, thank you for helping us with that. That song holds a special place in my husband’s heart and it will continue to do so!
If we ever get married again (hopefully not!!!) we would book you!

AMAZING BAND!!! EVERYONE DANCING!!!
We held my husband’s 50th at an RSL club and I had informed the function co-ordinator that the dance space he had provided would not be enough room as he would be bush dancing and everyone would participate. He told me that in his experience at planning functions that not even half the crowd dances.
Well- we showed him! For the first set this amazing band had all but 2 elderly people up and dancing.
We were quickly moving chairs out of the way! By the time the first set was over the functions co-ordinator himself realised his mistake and quickly rallied his staff to move several more tables and chairs. Needless to say we thoroughly enjoyed many bush dances and by the end of the night when the kids were still not tired we even danced to other styles of music.

We booked the Swamp Dawkins Band for our Cowboy themed Christmas Party for 120 staff of all ages. Michael was easy to deal with and prompt in his communications. Ian was a great caller, easy to follow and everyone was encouraged to get involved. We all ended the night laughing and exhausted! It was a great way to bring people together. Our staff are still talking about the party and how the atmosphere that the Swamp Dawkins Band provided really made the night.
I would highly recommend the Swamp Dawkins Band for a fun filled night of music and dancing.

BEST WEDDNG EVER!!! WE HAD A BALL!!!
Swamp Dawkins played at our wedding and WE HAD A BALL!!
They played unplugged during dinner and people were already saying how great the music was, then they called some barn dances and people had so so so much fun!!! They played other songs too, not just called dances and the dance floor was packed! They were all really nice guys too! After them we had a DJ, the night was so fun!
Lots of people said best wedding ever!!! I highly recommend them!
